Ready or Not Here I Come....

On Tuesday October 25th I started to have contractions. Darrin and I began to time them and they were occurring about four per hour. I called the advice nurse and she told me to drink some water and lay on my side for an hour.  I did what she said and the contractions began to decrease and eventually stopped so we decided to go to bed.

On Wednesday October 26th I woke up and felt really good no cramping or contractions.  I went to work but for the past three days I had been attending a workshop in South San Francisco so two of my coworkers and I had been carpooling.  At 7:30 AM I met my coworkers and we drove to the workshop. At 12:00 we had lunch and I felt great.  At 3:00PM I got up to go to the bathroom. As I walked down the hallway I felt the baby kick and then I felt a big pop and a gush of fluid.  I thought, "I think my water just broke!" I went to the bathroom and sure enough I was leaking fluid.  I walked back into the workshop and told my coworkers JJ and Mansi that we had to leave because my water had just broken. The three of us grabbed our stuff and headed to the car.

While JJ was driving I called the hospital in Hayward to tell them that I was on my way.  Darrin usually works from home, except on Wednesdays, so I called his office in San Jose but there was no answer.  I called his cell phone but there was no answer. So I called my sister Katie and asked her to call our mom and to try to get a hold of Darrin.  It turns out that Darrin had forgotten his cell phone at home that day and when he arrived home from work received a phone call on our home phone from Katie letting him know that I was headed to the hospital and my water had broken.

My coworkers took me to the hospital in Hayward and I asked Mansi to stay with me until Darrin arrived.  She was such a big help. She called Darrin's mom and dad as well as my mom. The hospital admitted me and then the doctor checked to see if my water had broken. The doctor confirmed that my water had broken and that the baby was still breech. The medical staff confirmed that I would indeed be having a c-section tonight.   I was so scared that Darrin would not get there in time. But luckily he arrived an hour before the procedure. When Darrin arrived my contractions began to come fast and strong.  I attempted to do the breathing techniques that we had learned in the preparing for childbirth class but the pain was very intense. Luckily Darrin was there to talk me through it. Before long I was wheeled into the operating room where the medical team gave me a spinal block and began to prep me for surgery.
